Exciting Genetic News at Kippax Valley Devons
Along with 57 other Devon breed enthusiasts from USA, Brazil, New Zealand and Australia, Denise and Denis were part of the unique UK “Devons at Home Tour”. Twenty farms were visited. This allowed them to inspect a selection of the best cattle in UK, as well as spending a day at the prestigious Royal Cornwall Show on Devon judging day.
For some time now we have been looking to expand our genetic base by looking to introduce bulls that suit the modern day beef market. We could not understand why Australian breeders have not taken advantage of the genetics available in the UK – after all, this is the original home of the Devon Cattle Breed. We were able to secure semen from 2 magnificent bulls. Both have not previously been available in Australia — one being Polled. In addition, negotiations are almost complete to purchase embryos from two of the top cows in the british herd. We see this as an exciting opportunity to introduce British genetics — not previously available in Australia — into the Australian herd.
